Local filmmakers win international film competition

Thousands of aspiring filmmakers entered an international film competition, and a Carpinteria couple came out on top.

The award was given to Nathanial and Christina Matanick for their work on the film “Removed.”

With the win, the filmmakers receive at least $250,000 and up to $1 million for their next film project.

The Matanick team’s submission was one of 152 films entered.

The film is about a child who lives in foster care.

The competition was put on by Echolight Studios.
