Councilman Hotchkiss to return next week after horse spill
Santa Barbara City Councilman Frank Hotchkiss says he will be ‘back in the saddle” after taking a spill from a horse prior to Friday’s Old Spanish Days parade, injuring his pelvis.
Hotchkiss says he stayed the night in Cottage Hospital after suffering the hairline fracture, when he was thrown off a horse to the grass lawn at Pershing Park.
The accident happened moments before Hotchkiss was set to enter a parade formation.
Speaking from home where he is recovering, Hotchkiss says he has been riding horses since he was a child. He believes the animal was possibly spooked when the councilman waved his hat at someone nearby.
Hotchkiss is running for re-election and does not expect this accident to slow his campaign efforts.
