Santa Ynez woman killed in crash

The California Highway Patrol says a 16-year-old driver to a pickup truck was traveling at high speeds when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed, killing one woman.

It happened on Saturday night while the Solvang teen was driving north on Ballard Canyon Road. Three people were inside the truck, while three others were riding in the bed of the truck. The three passengers in the back were thrown from the truck, killing a 19-year-old woman instantly.

The other passengers were all taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries. Officials say that the teen faces serious charges that include manslaughter and reckless driving. Once the teen is released from the hospital he will be taken into custody.
