Councilman recovering after falling from horse

Santa Barbara City Councilman Frank Hotchkiss is out of the hospital after falling from a horse at the start of the Old Spanish Days Fiesta Parade.

It happened around 11:50 a.m. Friday at the parade staging area at Pershing Park located on the 100 block of Castillo Street in Santa Barbara.

Apparently, the horse reared up as Hotchkiss took off his hat to wave at someone. He landed flat on his back on the grass.

He spent Friday night in the hospital and was released late Saturday morning.

Hotchkiss tells NewsChannel 3 his injuries are not serious. He says he won’t need surgery and is feeling upbeat about returning to work as soon as he can.
