Goleta bank robbed; Man flashed gun, flees on foot

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a bank robbery in Goleta.

It happened just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rabobank on the 5900 block of Calle Real. Initial reports indicate the robber was seen with a handgun at the time of the robbery.

Authorities say the robber is a heavyset white male wearing a green mask, dark sweater and tan pants.

The Sheriff’s Department was notified of the robbery when an alarm went off.

The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Sheriff’s deputies sent a reverse 911 call to warn residents in the area.

The investigation is ongoing. NewsChannel3 is on scene and will have a full report at 5 and 6 p.m.

Goleta- Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for a suspect who robbed a bank in Goleta. At around 10:45 a.m. this morning, a suspect wearing a mask and armed with a handgun walked in the front door of Rabobank located in the 5900 block of Calle Real. The suspect held up the bank and took off on foot, out a side door, with an undisclosed amount of cash. Three customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery which lasted several minutes. No one was hurt.

Bank employees alerted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office of the robbery by triggering a silent alarm. Deputies responded, secured the area and began searching for the suspect but were not able to locate him. A K-9 Unit was brought in to assist with search.

The suspect, whose image was captured by surveillance cameras, is described as a heavy-set, white male adult wearing a grey or tan mask, dark colored hoodie, tan pants and black gloves. Detectives are actively searching for the suspect and request anyone with information regarding the crime or his whereabouts to immediately contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150.
