Flower Girls, Las Senoritas bring Fiesta to local seniors

The Fiesta Flower Girls and Las Senoritas, the Old Spanish Days ambassadors, visited 24 retirement homes and senior facilities Tuesday.

The Friendship Center in Montecito took a break from its music for a festive surprise.

“I didn’t know they were coming in,” said Angelo, one of the Friendship Center seniors.

This is the week the girls have been waiting for all year long, including Kenzie Treloar, who is in her fourth year of bringing the Fiesta spirit to others.

“I love seeing the smiles on everybody’s faces. I love bringing joy to people who can’t come to the parades,” she said.

“They brought Fiesta to me, since I can’t go down there. It’s so nice. I love this place,” said Loretta, a Friendship Center senior.

Julianna Forrey, 9, is in her fifth year as a Flower Girl and likes to see the seniors’ faces light up.

“I like making people smile, making them happy and giving out flowers to them,” she said.

And the seniors appreciate it.

“I think it’s a beautiful thing because flowers are beautiful and they’re giving them to you, and it gives you that feeling of beauty,” said Wilma, another Friendship Center senior.

As the girls finished their stop at the senior center, they left the Fiesta spirit behind.

“Viva la Fiesta!” exclaimed the group.

The Flower Girls and Las Senoritas will greet visitors at Fiesta Pequena Wednesday and will also lead off the parade Friday.
