Body found in ravine off Painted Cave Road identified

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s office has positively identified the body found at the bottom of a ravine off Painted Cave Road on July 4.

The deceased man is 55-year-old Timothy Goodwin of Santa Barbara.

Goodwin was reported missing in Santa Barbara County in March of 2012. He was reportedly last seen driving away from his apartment in a white Chevy pick-up truck.

On the afternoon of July 4, a county helicopter flying over the area of Highway 154 and Painted Cave Road spotted the truck about 300 feet down a cliff at the bottom of a ravine in thick brush.

Sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers responded to the scene. Authorities told NewsChannel 3 they believe the body was there for some time.

They also confirmed the pick-up truck was registered to the subject of a missing person’s case from 2012.

Goodwin’s death is under investigation. It’s unclear if there were any other occupants in the car.
