Oxnard Salsa Festival

Oxnard’s version of a fiesta is getting underway in Plaza Park.

The 20th Oxnard Salsa Festival kicks off with Tito Puente Jr. performing on an outdoor stage.

Friday afternoon judges chose the winning salsa to be featured at the festival Saturday and Sunday. A people’s choice will also be chosen at a tasting garden.

Foodies may also enjoy all day cooking demonstrations at The Kitchen restaurant AT 529 south A Street. Owner Cathie Moreno said she is also excited about a new gourmet alley featuring products from vendors in the 805 area code.

There will be plenty of dancing, too. A contest similar to Dancing with the Stars, will be held too. The local contestants are raising money for charities they represent.
