Campfires in Los Padres National Forest banned during drought
Campers can forget about s’mores over a campfire in the Los Padres National Forest.
Ventura County Fire Capt. Scott Dettore said campfires are banned due to the high fire danger.
Despite cooler temperatures along the coast, it’s not the growing season for timber and brush. Although it sprinkled in Lockwood Valley Monday, plants known to burn easily are not getting enough moisture to dampen the fire danger.
Smoking outdoors in the forest is banned too.
Propane stoves are allowed with a permit.
