Paso Robles robbery suspect in custody

A man suspected of breaking into a car and stealing a woman’s purse in Paso Robles is now in custody.

The robbery took place Monday afternoon in the parking lot of Cregor’s Market at 611 Spring Street. The victim told police she locked her car with her purse inside as she went to work at the market. When she returned, her purse was missing and there was evidence that her car had been broken into.

The victim was able to get surveillance video which helped police create images of the suspect. The day after the robbery, employees at the market called police to report that they believed the suspect was inside the business.

Paso Robles police officers responded and detained the suspect without incident. The manwas positively identified as the robbery suspect. He is twenty-nine year old San Luis Obispo County resident Joseph Oliver Godfrey.

Police want to remind all residents to lock their homes and cars and to secure all valuables out of sight if possible.
