Junior wheelchair sports camp underway

The annual junior wheelchair camp is happening this week at UCSB. The program is put on by Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital and UCSB. Kids who use wheelchairs from ages 6-19 can sign up.

The camp features tennis, racquetball, rock wall climbing, rugby, swimming, and many other activities tailored to the kids’ abilities.

One instructor, Eric Kaiser, who’s also in a wheelchair following a motorcycle accident, says sportsare key to transitioning from an able body to one with a disability.

Many of the campers return as counselors once they graduate high school. The camp is free and serves kids and teens from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo. The program even offers transportation in some areas. For more info go to:
