Vom Steeg talks about loss of star Boateng
With official practice beginning on August 15, the timing of Ema Boateng’s departure from the UCSB men’s soccer team is tough for the program. But the Gauchos have a roster of about 30 players and the senior-laden squad expects to still be a force this year.
Boateng signed a 3.5-year professional contract with Heisingborgs IF, a Premier League Club in Sweden.
Boateng was the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2012 after scoring four goals with four assists. He figured to be a center piece of the Gauchos attack this season.
He was Gatorade’s National Soccer Player of the Year in his senior season at Cate School in Carpinteria.
