Girl recovering from rottweiler attack
Ventura police said a 5-year-old girl is recovering from wounds to her abdomen after being attacked by a rottweiler.
Witnesses said the dog was on a leash outside Starbucks on Main Street in downtown Ventura when the child walked by with an adult. The dog sprang onto the child and lifted her off the ground.
The child was taken to a hospital, and the dog was taken to the Ventura County animal shelter in Camarillo.
Shelter director Donna Gillespie said the dog will be in quarantined and observed for signs of rabies for the next 10 days.
She said they will talk to the families involved before they decide what to do with the dog, named Chico.
The addition of Chico added to the shelter’s overcrowding.
The shelter holds half-off pet adoptathons on the last Sunday of every month.
