Former Gaucho Young still follows the program closely

Michael Young won the American League batting title in 2005, he was the All-Star Game MVP in 2006 and he hit .338 in 2011. He is a 7-Time All-Star and isconsidered the most successful baseball player ever to come out of UC Santa Barbara.

Now with the Philadelphia Phillies, the 36-year old Young had a solid first half of the season batting .288 with six home runs and 28 RBI.

Young still follows the Gauchos and was excited to seeUCSB snap a long NCAA Regional drought by making the playoffs this past year.

Off the field Young and his wife Cristina support many causes and in 2008 and 2011, he was the recipient of the MLB Players Association’s Marvin Miller Award, given annually to an individual “whose on-field performance and contributions to the community inspire others to higher levels of achievement.”
