Highway 101 will close for investigation
Highway 101 North in Santa Barbara will be shutdown Wednesday night.
The California Highway Patrol is planning to investigate a series of crashes that happened within moments of each other about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The CHP said it all started with a drunk driver who lost control of his car and hit a guard rail near the El Sueno Road exit. The car blocked two lanes. Two other cars ended up hitting the alleged drunk driver’s car. One driver managed to slow down and make his way around the crash, but he was rear ended.
In total, five cars were damaged. Four people were taken to the hospital. As part of their investigation, the CHP plans to close the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at the Highway 154 exit at 10:00 Wednesday night. Drivers will be able to get back on Highway 101 at El Sueno Road. The CHP does not know how long the highway will remain closed.
