Missing Solvang pilot and his plane found near Yosemite

The plane that was reported missing over Yosemite National Park on Dec. 17, 2012 has been located, along with the deceased pilot.

Thediscovery was made Monday by apark visitor near Vogelsang High Sierra Camp on Saturday. The Vogelsang area is in the rugged highcountry of Yosemite National Park. Yosemite National Parkrangers hiked to the location of the plane, whichwas largely intact.

Nicol Wilson, the pilot of the plane from Solvang, has been positively identified. He was flying from the Santa Barbara area to the Mammoth Lakes Airport when the plane disappeared during a winter storm.

His wife reported him missing. After extensive searching, the search was suspended for the winter season.

Yosemite National Park rangers will be removing the plane from the backcountry over the next several weeks.
