Recycling center gets small business of the year award

The 35th District Small Business of the Year goes to a Santa Maria recycling and distribution center.

Larrabee Brothers Recycling Center is one of Santa Maria’s oldest recycling centers.

Every year, the company processes more than 2.2 million pounds of recyclable materials.

It’s also a beer distributor to Northern Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County.

One thing the company prides itself on is helping the community. “We give back to the community. We support the YMCA, we support the Boys and Girls Club, cancer foundations a lot of numerous things and we also do solar, recycling and giving back. I think it’s a good example,” said CEO Michael Larrabee.

Larrabee says the company is also one of the largest solar producers in Santa Maria.

Congresswoman Lois Capps stopped by the business today to applaud the owners on their recognition and for using green technologies.
