Oxnard plane crash kills two
Oxnard airport administrators said the widows of two men killed in a crash Saturday gave them permission to release their husbands’ names.
James Ayers, 67, of Newbury Park, and Donald “Craig” Tempelton, 54, of Agoura Hills were killed in a fiery crash after taking off from the Oxnard Airport.
They were flying in Ayers’ RV4, known as an experimental plane.
Witnesses at the Seabridge Marketplace, on the corner of Wooley Road and Victoria Avenue, said they heard the explosion around noon Saturday and then saw the plume of smoke.
Ayers founded of the Experimental Aircraft Association chapter at the airport.
Both were regulars at the airport just a few blocks from the crash site.
The Federal Aviation Administration is still looking into the cause.
