Friends, family pay last respects to Edwin Garcia

Hundreds of friends and family came together to remember 15-year-old Edwin Garcia on Monday.

The Dos Pueblos High School freshman was hit and killed by a train on June 21.

Many of his high school friends paid their last respects to the Goleta teen at Holy Cross Church in Santa Barbara.

The family held fundraisers to help with the cost of the funeral and they said with the help of the community, they were able to pay for the whole thing.

“Thank you to everybody, all the community. We didn’t expect the help that we got from everybody. Even people who didn’t even know us and didn’t even know Edwin,” said Patricia Delgado, mother of Edwin’s girlfriend.

“I want to thank the owner of the car wash for allowing this to happen,” said Reynaldo Delgado, father of Edwin’s girlfriend.

It’s not known why Edwin was on the train tracks at the time. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating but said the death is not suspicious.
