Channel Islands Outfitters wins Goleta Beach bid

It won’t be anything like spring break Deltopia in Isla Vista, but you can expect bigger crowds at Goleta Beach this summer.

City officials confirm Channel Islands Outfitters won the winning bid to run concession rentals.

The group, which already had a kayak rental business at the location, was among a handful of locals vying for the coveted spot.

Jeff Lindgren, manager of parks services, said visitors will be also be able to rent surfboards, stand-up paddle boards and certain types of sporting equipment, including volleyball.

And you can leave your beach chairs and umbrellas at home — you’ll be able to rent those, too.

Those who want to fish will likely see the pier’s bait shop open up.

Lindgren said the owners of Outfitters are also looking to include a marine education component to their business, that would focus on the impacts of plastics in the ocean.

The concession stand will be set up in the former ranger’s cottage across from the grassy area, and should be up and running by Memorial Day.
