Teen center celebrates grand opening

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is taking a new approach.

Rather than being open to all ages, the Harriet H. Samuelson Branch at 126 E. 7 th St. in Oxnard is now exclusively for teens. It is being called The Club.

The Boys and Girls Club on 5th Street will welcome children 12 and under.

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting took place Thursday night.

But all week teens can enjoy a boxing area, a climbing wall, a snack bar and an art and music room.

Chief Professional Officer Tim Blaylock said, “The Club is really about teens voicing their perspective, interests and connecting face-to-face with each other in a safe, substance-free and pressure-free environment.”

Teens can register to join the center for $20 a year. For more information or to register, contact Erin Antrim at 483-1118 x305 or eamtrim@bgcop.org.
