Fourth District Supervisor Paul Teixeira Dies Suddenly at the age of 57

San Luis Obispo County Supervisor and board chairman Paul Teixeira passed away suddenly late Wednesday night at the age of 57.

Teixeira was a lifelong resident of Nipomo and was involved in many aspects of the community and the county.

He held a position on the Lucia Mar School Board, and with the county Parks and Recreation department.

County Supervisor Dan Buckshi told NewsChannel 3 that Teixeira will be remembered for his years of service and devotion to the community.

Buchshi said Teixeira’s legacies include the restoration of Nipomo Park, the solar project to complete Willow Road, and the Arroyo Grande levee system to help prevent future flooding.

He also considered the county’s parks system a “gem.”

Teixeira was an active member of the South County Rotary, numerous advisory councils and charitable organizations.

He was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2010 and appointed as board chairman in 2013.

Teixeira pledged to provide the community of the Fourth District with fair, honest and transparent leadership.

Buckshi said he believes Teixeira died of natural causes at his home, but said the city is awaiting on an official report.

Normally Supervisor Bruce Gibson, as the current vice chairman, would step into the role as Chair, but he is presently out of town.

According to the County’s Emergency Operations Success Plan document, Supervisor Adam Hill will serve as acting board chairman until Supervisor Gibson returns.

According to state statute, “whenever a vacancy occurs in any board of supervisors, the governor shall fill the vacancy. The appointee shall hold office until the election and qualification of his successor. Government Code Title 3, Section 25060.

The date of the next election is June 3, 2014 and the seat is up for a full term at that date. The county will be in contact with the Governor’s Office and this will go through the normal process.

In remembrance of Teixeira, the flag at all county facilities will be at half-staff beginning Thursday.
