Beach washing away in Port Hueneme

Beach erosion has washed away a large stretch of the beach in Port Hueneme.

Public Works Director Andy Santamaria said it caused the loss of a pier piling too. Santa Maria plans to talk about the problem and possible solutions at a meeting Tuesday night.

Junior lifeguard campers don’t have as much sand to run on this summer.

But the city has come up with a temporary fix. Plans are in the works to move boulders from Emma Wood State Beach Park to Port Hueneme.

The rocks are supposed to keep the erosion from affecting the street and homes until sand can be brought in by the Army Corps of Engineers next year.

The sand work isn’t in the corps’ budget this year.
