Power outage affecting KEYT off-air viewers
KEYT NewsChannel 3 is currently not available to over-the-air viewers due to a power surge at the main transmitter site. The significant power outage which affected much of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties also interfered with the station’s primary power supply. KEYT engineers are investigating if the power surge is the reason the backup generator is also offline. Engineers are on site to assess the damage and determine the best method to return KEYT NewsChannel 3 to the air as quickly as possible.
The station’s San Luis Obispo County transmitter at Cuesta Peak is also off the air but should go back on the air about the same time as the primary transmitter. “At this time we do not know the extent of the damage to our facility and therefore we cannot estimate the time it will take to restore service,” said KEYT NewsChannel 3 General Manager Mark Danielson.
More than 90% of viewers in SLO and Santa Barbara Counties are not affected by this outage because they watch KEYT NewsChannel 3 on cable or satellite.
All Ventura County viewers with Time-Warner Cable or watching with an antenna are unable to watch KEYT NewsChannel 3 for now because service in that area is dependent on the over-the-air signal.
Updates will be provided as more details about the extent of the damage and repair needs are known. “The entire team at KEYT NewsChannel 3 is working to resolve the issues caused by the power disruption last night, and will do whatever is needed to restore our transmission facility to 100% power as soon as possible,” Danielson said.
