Chumash community welcomes summer season

Members of the Chumash tribe helped welcome the first full day of summer Friday morning.

About a handful of other North American Pacific tribes attended the event at 5:30 a.m.

The tribes burned sage near Stearns Wharf to bless the longest day of the year.

In addition participants took a sunrise paddle in the wooden tomol through the Santa Barbara Harbor.

The special event was organized by the Chumash elders and Integrated Marine Education and Research Expeditions.
