Workers’ compensation attorneys rally on behalf of late client

Activists opposed to workers’ compensation reform legislation known as Senate Bill 899, passed by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, are accusing a workers’ compensation insurance company of causing a patient’s death. They took their complaint to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office Thursday.

Attorney Jill Singer said a Ralph’s Grocery store worker named Charles Romano injured his back and shoulder on the job in 2003.

The Camarillo man later died from a staph infection following surgery.

Attorneys claims an administrator called Sedgwick CMS denied medical treatment 11 times. Singer said she wants the district attorney to investigate the action of the insurance company and the employee who denied medical treatment that resulted in the injured worker’s death.

Sedgwick CMS has not yet responded to an email request for a comment.
