Santa Barbara County home health care employees want raise

Santa Barbara County home health care employees want a raise.

They held a rally on the steps of a county building in Santa Barbara Tuesday to get their message out.

The workers take care of seniors and people with disabilities.

They make $10 an hour. A few years ago, they had a contract that called for them to make $11 an hour. But when the county was having money trouble a couple years ago, they ended up agreeing to a pay cut. Now they want their money back.

“Now, the county has money and they should compensate folks for the work they are doing,” said Santa Barbara County home health care worker Vibiana Saavedra.

County supervisors say they still need to learn more about the situation in a closed-door session in a few weeks.
