Possible drowning at beach in Ventura

Ventura Police said a surfer found a swimmer face down in the ocean Wednesday afternoon near the Crown Plaza on the Ventura promenade.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital after being worked on by lifeguards at the beach.

The swimmer’s condition has not been released.

There have been several drownings in backyard pools this month.

Public Health administraors plan to issue swimming safety warnings on the first day of summer Friday.
