3 people injured in a 5-car accident in Santa Maria

3 people sustained major injures in a five-car collision in Santa Maria.

It happened about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of McCoy Lane and S. Broadway.

Investigators said three people in a Toyota Camry sustained major injuries and were later transported to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. The extent of their injuries and identities are not yet known.

The driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck, 19-year-old Christian Carbajal Rodriguez, of Santa Maria,also sustained minor injuries. He was later arrested for DUI causing injury and reckless driving.

There were three other vehicles involved in the collision that sustained minor to major damage. None of those drivers or passengers were injured.

The incident is under investigation. A cause has not yet been determined.
