Bands pay tribute to the late Johnny Cash Saturday

A tribute to the music of Johnny Cash will fill the Ventura County fairgrounds during the fifth annual Roadshow Revival.

Event promoter Ross Emery said every band playing will include the music of the Man in Black.

Emery and Cash’s daughter Cindy created the event, which only has one stop in Ventura.

But next year they hope to take it to several cities.

Cindy Cash is a Ventura resident and grandmother.

She said many people stop her in the street to share stories about her famous father.

The Cash family moved to Casitas Springs, between Ojai and Ventura, in the 1960’s.

She said her mother, Vivian, nicknamed her dad Johnny after they collided at a San Antonio roller rink.

Cindy Cash said her parents wrote a thousand mushy love letters to each other when her dad was away in the service.

They divorced after Johnny Cash started spending too much time on the road, away from his wife and four daughters in Ventura County.

Vivian Cash died in 2005. She is buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Although Cindy Cash sang with her dad over the years, she will not be performing on stage this Saturday, but she will be in the crowd enjoying her dad’s music.

The event includes Cash memorabilia, a car and bike show and a pin-up pageant.

One dollar of every $25 ticket goes to Food Share, a cause Cash cared about.
