Apple Tries to Stop Apple-Picking
A new anti-theft feature will be part of Apple’s new mobile operating system, iOS 7. Right now, thieves often turn off the “Find My iPhone” app. But, soon that won’t matter.
Updated iPhones will require an iCloud user name and password in order to reactivate them.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is excited about Apple’s announcement. iPhone theft known as “apple-picking” is a growing problem, especially near University of California, Santa Barbara.
UCSB student Brianna Koch said “I have had friends get their phone stolen before and it is all about the pictures, the memories. To stop people from stealing your memories and from being able to steal your phone would be great.”
The new anti-theft feature isn’t available for your iPhone yet. Apple expects to have the feature on its new operating system, which you’ll be able to download for free this fall.
