Hundreds run for local girl battling rare disorder

There was an outpouring of support for a local girl battling a rare disorder on Saturday.

Hundreds of people came out to Chase Palm Park to run for 7-year-old Sorel Kolendrianos.

Sorel was born with Rett Syndrome. It has taken a lot away from her like the ability to walk and talk, but it cannot steal her spirit.

“This little girl speaks with her eyes. She knows what’s going on and can feel this energy we are bringing to her today,” said Jenny Schatzle.

Schatzle organized the charity run for Sorel that is now in its second year.

Throughout the 3.1 mile course, the skies were dark, but the mood was bright.

“It was so fun and seeing everybody smile was just awesome,” said Hayden Carlson, a friend of Sorel.

Sorel crossed the finish line with her mom, just like everyone else.

“It was exhilarating, beautiful, she was laughing the whole time,” said Megan Kolendrianos.

Raising a child with Rett Syndrome is a challenge and Sorel’s family will put the money raised to good use.

“We need an adaptive mini-van,” said Megan.

The run raised $3,640.
