Horseback rider falls 100 feet over cliff

Santa Barbara County Fire crews were called to the scene after a horseback rider fell 100 feet down an embankment.

The rider fell around 4:20 p.m. Friday at Circle Bar B Guest Ranch and Stables in Goleta.

NewsChannel 3 has learned it was a ranch worker who fell. The 65-year-old man was riding his own horse on his own time when the 1200-pound horse spooked. The horse landed on the man, and as of Friday night the man is in serious condition.

The call for the assistance of Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue has been canceled.

CalStar rescue helicopter landed on Refugio Road to transport the victim to the hospital.
