UCSB wins opening game of NCAA Baseball Regional

For the first time since 2001, UCSB has won a postseason game in baseball.

Austin Pettibone notched his tenth win of the season as he pitches UCSB to a 6-4 victory over Texas A&M in the opening game of the Corvallis Regional. Pettibone worked 7 2/3 innings allowing just two runs and he struck out six to improve to 10-3 on the year.

UCSB built up a 5-1 lead after four innings and survived a late rally by the Aggies. Luke Swenson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Joey Epperson added two hits and an RBI.

The Aggies scored two runs in the ninth inning to cut the deficit to two runs before Dylan Hecht slammed the door shut on the rally for his ninth save on the year.

UCSB will play host Oregon State tomorrow at 5 p.m. in this double-elimination tournament. The Beavers scored two runs in the ninth inning to edge UT-San Antonio 5-4.
