Goleta Councilman Michael Bennett resting after fainting spell

Goleta City Councilman Michael Bennett is resting at home, after a fainting spell prior to the annual State of the City event.

Bennett was with his fellow city council members and nearly 400 people when the incident occurred.

He was assisted by a County Fire Captain at the scene while a fire crew and AMR ambulance were rushed to the ballroom at Bacara Resort and Spa.

Bennett was taken to Santa Barbara’s Cottage Hospital for testslate Thursday afternoon before he was released.

During the luncheon Mayor Roger Aceves told the audience Bennett was a “fighter, and going to (Cottage) the best hospital he could ever have.” The report provided some relief for those who saw the emergency scene earlier.

Bennett is a former fire battalion chief and was first elected to the council in 2006.

No other details about the incident have been released.
