Memorial Day observed by teens, too
The Memorial Day program at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura was moved to a new location Monday.
It was held beneath a new flag display.
A standing-room-only crowd included plenty of children.
Jolie Nieberding-Swanberg said her teacher offered extra credit to students.
She said she enjoyed watching them honor veterans.
Lance Cpl. Nicholas H. Anderson’s younger brother attended too.
Jackson Anderson’s brother Nicholas was killed in an attack in Bagdad in November, 2004.
Anderson was buried with full military honors at Ivy Lawn Cemetery.
Ventura City Council member Neal Andrews served as guest speaker.
Andrews shared stories about his family. He had relatives fighting on both sides of the Civil War.
The ceremony included a gun salute and a flyover by the 805th Navion Squadron.
Military casket flags line an Avenue of Flags. The flags will fly all week.
