Amtrak train hits car at Oxnard crossing

An Amtrak train traveling north through Ventura County toward Santa Barbara hit a car at the Rose Avenue and 5th Avenue crossing in Oxnard about 8:50 p.m Friday night.

An Amtrak official told NewsChannel 3 the crash happened just south of the Oxnard train station. Amtrak train #785 from San Diego to Goleta-North had 192 passengers on board. No passengers were hurt. However, Oxnard police told NewsChannel Three that a person in the car was killed.

All train traffic had been stopped for several hours as police investigated and the crash scene cleared. As of 10:25 p.m. Amtrak’s website showed train #785 was scheduled to arrive in Santa Barbara at 9:45 p.m. and it was on time. However, the train and its 192 passengers were still stranded in Oxnard. As of 11:00p.m., Amtrak officials said they were waiting for the Coroner to arrive on scene. Until then, the train could not leave. As of 11:58p.m., the train had just left the Ventura station traveling north.
