Pallet fire causes alarm

About 90 firefighters were called to an Oxnard fire that started in the middle of a farm Wednesday.

At first there was concern that chemicals used by farmers would ignite, but no hazardous materials caught fire.

The fire started in some pallets near a greenhouse and farm sheds.

Fire trucks from Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, and Ventura County helped keep a water truck full as crews doused the flames.

The fire started around 1 p.m. near strawberry fields on the corner of Wooley Road and Rice Avenue.

The cause is still under investigation.

It took nearly two hours to put the fire out.
