National Weather Service reflects on warnings

A National Weather Service office like the one in Oxnard is located just 10 minutes south of Moore, Okla.

Forecasters in Oxnard said the national average warning before a tornado is 13 minutes.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Eric Boldt said forecasters based in Oklahoma issued a warning 16 minutes before the tornado touched down and 35 minutes before it actually arrived in Moore.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office that serves Los Angeles and the central monitor radar seven days a week. By watching for significant changes in the weather they can issue warnings that save lives and property.
