Locals react to Jodi Arias verdict
A jury in Phoenix has found Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree murder for the killing of her ex-boyfriend.
Arias spent part of her childhood in the Santa Maria area, and locals following the case say the verdict is not a surprise.
“Good. I think she was guilty,” said Janis Mouw of Nipomo.
Throughout the investigation, Arias’ story has changed multiple times. Finally, she said she killed her ex-boyfriend in self-defense.
“Excuses she made, it seemed like it was pretty proven that that she did it. I mean, that it wasn’t really self-defense,” said Alfred Oseguera of Santa Maria.
Arias now faces life in prison and potentially the death penalty for the 2008 murder.
“It’s been a long time, and it was pretty well-proven that she was guilty, so I don’t have any problem with that,” said Sam Schlunk of Santa Maria.
