Two new boat ramps to open at Santa Barbara Harbor

Work has begun on two new boat launching ramps at the Santa Barbara Harbor.

“We’re adding two launching areas, which will give us a total of six lanes for launching power boats and adjacent to it we have a wash down area,” said Santa Barbara Waterfront Facilities Manager Karl Treiberg.

The project is well underway with heavy equipment tearing out concrete and rocks.

The section being worked on now, was built back in the 1960’s.

This phase of the ramp project is the final part of a upgrade that has included work nearby to other launching ramps for many different water crafts.

“We’ve got a lot more use from non-powered water crafts in the last decade,” said Trieberg. “Kayaks, standup paddle boards and the like. It’s more activity with respect to the two different uses.”

The $350,000 project is funded from a grant through the State Department of Boating and Waterways.

The project should be done in mid June.
