Donations pay for new police dog

A new K-9 patrol dog is coming to the Santa Barbara Police Department, paid for with funds from a nonprofit organization.

The Santa Barbara Police Foundation presented Mayor Helene Schneider with a check for $52,000 at Tuesday’s meeting.

The money is part of a series of donations by this group to help the police department with equipment and other services for all officers.

“Over the last month and a half we have given over $100,000 for various aspects of the department. Last time it was money for the SWAT equipment and we’re happy to do that,” said Foundation President Craig Case.
