Dons walk-off in pitcher’s duel vs Buena

Addison Pelupessy was good but Gabe Grandcolas was even better as Santa Barbara High School edged Buena 1-0 in a Channel League contest at Eddie Mathews Field.

Pelupessy uncorked a wild pitch in the seventh inning as pinch-runner Zach Torres raced home for the walk-off win as the Dons improve to 5-2 in league. Tanner Guerra led off the seventh with a double to right-center and was replaced by Torres. Peter Gherson came up with a bunt single and then stole second. Skyler Sabado was at the plate when Pelupessy’s pitch went to the backstop allowing Torres to score.

Grandcolas allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout. He is now 5-2 on the year. Pelupessy gave up just five hits and was the hard-luck loser.

Same two teams will play on Friday in Ventura.
