Gunman wanted in double shooting

Oxnard police are searching for a gunman who shot and wounded two teens Monday night.

It happened on the sidewalk near the corner of Devonshire Drive and F Street.

Investigators say it started out as a confrontation between two groups of people on the sidewalk. Then a young man pulled out a gun. Moments later, the gunman shot an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man as they tried to run away.

Neighbors say they are scared and angry because it happened across the street from Curren Elementary School.

The male victim is listed in serious condition at the Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura. The woman is being treated for a graze wound at St. John’s hospital in Oxnard.

Police say they don’t know whether the shooting is gang-related. They are asking anyone with information to call the violent crime hotline at 805-982-7070.
