UCSB wins pitcher’s duel over Long Beach State

UCSB’s Austin Pettibone allowed just one run in 8 1/3 innings as he outdueled Long Beach State’s Shane Carle in a 2-1 victory. Brandon Trinkwon belted a 2-run first-inning homer to give the Gauchos a 2-1 lead and Pettibone went to work after that to improve to 5-2 on the year. The sophomore scattered eight hits and struck out five while walking just one batter.

Dylan Hecht got the final two outs of the game, stranding the tying run on third. UCSB is now 5-5 in the Big West Conference and 19-17 overall. Long Beach State is 6-4 in league.
