Local Muslims reject terrorists
The Islamic Society of Santa Barbara says it joins Muslims across the nation in the rejection of terrorist activities.
They gather for a service weekly in Goleta.
“We hate these people more than Americans hate them,” said Yama Niazi an Islamic leader. “To the terrorists, the message would be, if you’re trying to associate yourself with us Muslims, we are with our fellow Americans. We have nothing to do with these crimes that you do.”
Niazi says he and others in the Islamic Society teach, “respect of our neighbors, respect for our country. I grew up here in Santa Barbara and I love my place, and I love my country.”
The members hope to do more outreach in their neighborhoods and in their workplace in the days ahead to reinforce their commitment to a safe country.
