Two teens arrested for Santa Barbara fire

Two teenage boys were taken in by Santa Barbara Police Monday after a fire along the railroad tracks near Canon Perdido Street.

Investigators say the boys were smoking marijuana and playing with fire, then they left the area.

One was caught quickly by police in the area. The second was located later in the evening after help from eyewitnesses.

No structures were damaged.

“That railroad corridor is always a location where certain types of criminal activity can happen,” said Sgt. Riley Harwood.

The fire broke out about 6 p.m. “They just casually began burning limbs, sticks and leaves,” said Harwood.

One resident, Zuliana Gan was quick to the scene with a neighbor and helped to stop the fire with dirt. She says teens are often in the area, hanging out around the tracks and the trees. “We don’t know what they are doing,” said Gan.
