Lower State St. road work gets another look

Even though asphalt has been dug up, and work is underway, there may still be changes to the lower State St. road project. Two council members want to talk about the “big picture” plan.

Dale Francisco and Randy Rowse want to make sure the design is not restrictive. They want the roadway to downtown to be welcoming and allow for traffic to come through the area either directly to downtown businesses or off to the revitalized “Funk Zone.”

The Santa Barbara City Council will discuss the issue Tuesday.

Meanwhile crews have already ripped out some of the street and sidewalk area as part of a beautification plan. It also calls for two lanes of traffic in each direction to be reduced to one lane in each direction.
