UCSB loses heartbreaker to No.1 BYU

The Gauchos were two points away from upsetting top-ranked BYU but the Cougars scored the final four points to win a five-set thriller at the Thunderdome in men’s college volleyball. UCSB is now 1-5 this year in five-set matches.

Evan Licht’s kill gave UCSB a 13-11 lead in the final set but the Cougars showed why they are number one as they stormed back to improve to 20-3 on the year. No. 7 UCSB falls to 14-14 on the season.

Licht had a match-high 21 kills while Austin Kingi added 11 for UCSB. Ben Patch led BYU with 19 kills while Taylor Sander was right behind him with 18.
