Stop ‘N Shop gutted in overnight fire
The Stop ‘N Shop convenience store at Calle Real and El Sueno was heavily damaged Friday morning in an overnight fire.
The small market at 76 El Sueno Rd. was fully engulfed when crews from Santa Barbara County and City Fire arrived.
Residents in a nearby apartment complex were evacuated as a precaution.
“Crews found fire showing from the front of the structure,” County Fire Captain David Sadecki told NewsChannel 3. “Crews made a quick interior attack, and were able to confine the fire to the structure.”
Sadecki said the business is a total loss.
No one was hurt.
Fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
The owner, Tony Jarjour said he believed the fire was caused by an electrical problem. The store was closed when the flames broke out.
Jarjour said he will repair the building and reopen as soon as possible.
The building has been at the site about 50 years. Jarjour has been the owner eight years.
